Renewing a Project: When an old door with an oil base finishing and one is trying to refinish it with a shorter cut method by simply putting on a new varnish over the top will produce a guarantee not satisfying outcome especially varnish being applied on is another water base product.
The better alternative is to invest a bit more time and effort toward the project: Meaning one have to do the cleaning, sanding, removing all residue, grease, and even stripping layers of old stain or paint for priming and other color coating before any finishing topcoat. Remember a foundation for a base-coat will absolutely excel an extraordinary quality.
